I really enjoyed trying the Mount Gay Black Barrel Double Cask Blend Rum. It is a very good sipping rum, it does have a strong bourbon flavor so it is not for those that don’t like bourbon. I poured a bit into a shot glass and drank it straight. I was hoping the double cask would improve the flavor but it didn’t.
I like it ok with Coke but probably won’t buy again just because of my taste preferences.
Hints of mixed fruit makes it mix well with a citrus soda or enjoy clean with a bit of ice.

Great flavor by itself or mixed into a cocktail. Mount Gay is not only the oldest Rum Distillery on the island, it is documented to be the oldest Rum Distillery in the world with land title papers stretching all the way back to 1703.I am going to make eggnog with it this Christmas season and see who notices a difference. Definitely prefer to my standard spiced rum options.trojansam
You can taste the oak and some sweetness such as vanilla or caramel at first sip. To add even more complexity, the stills are a combination of pot and column. The previous edition was a blend of Rums had a narrower range of agings. Most rums are sweet and neither of us felt Mount Gay Black Barrel was that.
I was incentivized for my honest review.
Mount Gay XO has been around for a while… but then again it is brand new.
Adding lime does give it a nice flavor for my honey who likes it straight. Good both to just sip or to make mixed cocktails with. Like an amalgam of caramel, vanilla, and with a light citrus and even banana aftertaste. I can’t tell you all the notes, the palate, the distinct differences of the nose and lingering finish of anything.
Woody and buttery notes are balanced with toasted vanilla, toffee and orange zest, perfect for spirit forward cocktails.
Tons of character, not too sweet, and with a great balance of spice and fruit notes.

Let me preface this by saying I’m not some liquor snob.
The only thing I wish differently Is that I would have discovered this sooner.
