In an interview with People, Penn spoke candidly about his sexuality, saying: "I discovered my own sexuality relatively late in life compared to many other people.
People figure their s*** out at different times in their lives, so I'm glad I did when I did."
Detailing the couple's first date in his new book, Penn reveals that first met Josh while he was working for the Obama Administration as the Principal Associate Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement.
He said that on their first date, Josh came to his apartment with an 18-pack of Coors Light and turned on the TV to watch NASCAR.
"I thought, 'This obviously is not going to work out," Penn writes.
"Next thing you know, it's been a couple months and we're watching NASCAR every Sunday. That’s a wonderful thing.
The 44-year-old Penn told People magazine in an interview that ran on Sunday (Oct 31) that he discovered his sexuality late in life, compared to a lot of other people.
"There's no timeline on this stuff. There’s no timeline on this stuff.
I'm like, 'What is happening?'"
Penn tells People that the couple are now in the process of deciding whether to have a "big ass Indian wedding", or a smaller affair.
Penn's new book, You Can't Be Serious, will be released on November 2.
